Yes, there is indeed a cross out of the word “at” in this certificate, which makes it all the more real when you realize someone typed it up. My uncle was killed by a German sniper just outside Brest, France at the age of 20.

He was also awarded the Bronze Star for “Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against the Enemy” on February 4, 1944.

 

As well as a Purple Heart on August 25, 1944.
